Sam Kerr scores twice in Blues win – fr

Chelsea went one step further to retain the Women’s Super League title with a comfortable victory over a stubborn Tottenham Hotspur side.

Spurs goalkeeper Becky Spencer made a series of saves before Sam Kerr left the Blues at a tight angle four minutes before halftime.

Kerr went 2-0 shortly after the break, his 20th league goal of the season.

The Blues, who are still looking for a historic quadruple, are now two points ahead at the top of the table.

Emma Hayes’ side know that a victory over Reading on the last day of the campaign on Sunday will see them propel Manchester City to the title.

Hayes made five changes to the team that have reserved their place in the final of the Women’s Champions League Sunday, but the Blues were frustrated for most of the first half.

Spencer made good saves to prevent headers from Sophie Ingle and Drew Spence, and also grabbed a shot from Welsh midfielder Ingle for a corner kick.

Chelsea broke the deadlock when Millie Bright’s long diagonal in the box was thrown across the goal by Guro Reiten and Kerr provided the finishing touch.

Kerr saw a powerful point-blank header saved by Spencer seven minutes after the reboot, but she converted the rebound to give The Hive a break for her side.

Blues goalie Ann-Katrin Berger had little to do in a professional visitors performance, although the German had to put her body behind Lucy Quinn’s sloping drive.

Rianna Dean sent a narrow late effort for Spurs, whose winless run in the league extended to 10 games.

Chelsea continue to carve out results at the end of the season, with a seventh win in eight league appearances that puts them on the brink of a fourth WSL title.
