Ryan Benoit fails weigh-in, removed from UFC Fight Night card due to dehydration issues – fr

Ryan Benoit was taken off the UFC card this weekend after a scary scene at the weigh-ins.
Benoit missed weight by 3 pounds on his second attempt on Friday morning, coming back to 129 pounds for a flyweight bout in Las Vegas. He was scheduled to fight Zarrukh Adashev on Saturday at UFC Fight Night, but that fight has now been called off due to a problem with Benoit’s weight management, UFC officials have confirmed with ESPN.

On his first attempt, a visibly dehydrated Benoit was helped up the ladder by trainer Jamie Crowder and couldn’t sit there under his own power long enough for the Nevada State chief assistant. Athletic Commission (NSAC) Jeff Mullen records his weight. A wobbly Benoit was helped by UFC security and Crowder.

Benoit was then taken backstage at UFC Apex to be examined by a doctor. About five minutes later, Benoit returned and was helped up the ladder by Crowder and UFC security. Still wobbly, Benoit was able to sit still on the scale long enough for Mullen to register the weight at 129 pounds.

According to his manager, Oren Hodak of KO Reps, Benoit was rushed to hospital from the Apex after the second attempt on the scale.

This is not the first time that Benoit has had weight problems. He also missed weight by 3 pounds before a fight in November 2017 with Ashkan Mokhtarian, but that fight remained on the card and Benoit won by knockout.

Benoit (10-7) was trying to break a two-game losing streak this weekend. The 31-year-old Texas resident hasn’t won since that victory over Mokhtarian almost four years ago. Adashev (3-3) is also on a two-game losing streak and was looking for his first UFC win on Saturday.

A heavyweight fight between Ben Rothwell and Philipe Lins has also been taken off the map. According to the UFC, Lins was not medically cleared to compete.

Diego Ferreira lacked weight for a scheduled bout with Gregor Gillespie, weighing 160.5 pounds – 4.5 pounds overweight – for a lightweight contest. The fight will remain on the map, but Ferreira will lose 30% of her purse to Gillespie.

Both main event fighters put on weight successfully. Marina Rodriguez weighed 125.5 pounds and Michelle Waterson was 125 pounds for the scheduled flyweight bout.
