Ash Barty and Iga Swiatek are the favorites at Roland Garros, and they are in the same half of the table, which means they would meet in the semi-finals.

Barty, the top seed and 2019 champion, skipped the 2020 tournament to stay in his native Australia during the coronavirus pandemic.

In her absence, Swiatek won the title last fall as the 54th player in the world in the best unannounced Grand Slam domination combination in over 40 years. Swiatek is ranked eighth.

Serena Williams, three-time Roland-Garros champion (last in 2015), is in the opposite half as the No. 7 seed. She hasn’t reached the quarter-finals in Paris since returning from childbirth and could get 26th place Angelique Kerber or quarter-final of Roland-Garros 2020 Danielle Collins if it reaches the third round.

Williams’ quarterback seed is No.3 Aryna sabalenka, who beat Williams in the fourth round of the Australian Open in February.

No. 24 seed Coco Gauff, at 17 the youngest seed in a Slam since 2006, could face the compatriot Jennifer Brady, the 13th seed, in the third round. Barty is a potential opponent in the fourth round.

No. 2 seed Naomi Osaka, who did not make it past the third round in Paris, could be threatened by Spanish clay Paula Badosa in the third round and Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, in the quarterfinals.
