Robert De Niro was left in “excruciating” pain after tearing his quadriceps earlier this month (May 21).
The 77-year-old actor had to return home to New York from Oklahoma, where he shot Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, after being injured on set.
And speaking to IndieWire about the crash, the screen veteran explained that it happened in a split second as he was “going through” something.
“I ripped my quad somehow…” he sighed. “(It was) just a simple step on something and I just came down.
“The pain was excruciating and now I have to fix it. But it does happen, especially as you get older, you have to be prepared for unexpected things.
Now that he is waiting for surgery to have his leg repaired, Robert added that his pain was “manageable”.
And thankfully, his role in Killers of the Flower Moon – as breeder William Hale – is largely “sedentary,” so the injury shouldn’t affect the filming of the movie much.
“I don’t move a lot, thank goodness. So we will succeed, ”he said.
