As reported by Variety, Regina King to keep her hot streak alive by directing an adaptation of the Harlem Renaissance comic book by David F. Walker, Sanford Green and Chuck Brown Bitter root for legendary images. Set in the 1920s, the book is about a family of monster hunters called the Sangeryes who are tasked with defending Harlem against supernatural threats, with Caitlin Rosberg referring to it as a “Beautiful living comic about the murder of monsters” in 2018. There are also a few metaphors at play there, which might help lend this movie version a bit. Get out or HBO Guardians energy (King played in Guardians!).
On a similar note, Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler is among the producers, as are King and the team behind the original comic, who seem to be good signs. Bryan Edward Hill, who Variety says writes a new neighbor Power Rangers film (of which there will apparently be a lot) “Is currently rewriting a draft script. Unless something else comes along, it looks like Bitter root will be King’s second feature film after One night in Miami.
