A Level 2 left quad strain kept Davis from making his Rangers debut after hitting .213 in 13 spring games. A’s former slugger, of course, was acquired via trade with Jonah Heim and Dane Acker. The move allowed the Rangers to change Isiah Kiner-Falefa to stop short and hopefully inject some right-handed pop into the lineup. Davis’s power is evident, but he’s struggled to access it in-game over the past two seasons. He’s posted a disappointing .217 / .294 / .378 in 632 appearances on the field over the past two years. Davis will likely see some playing time against lefties, providing respite for Willie Calhoun or David Dahl.
The 27-year-old white also came to Rangers from the A’s via a three-team swap in 2018 that sent Jurickson Profar in Oakland. White didn’t find much consistency to the plate in small samples at the big league level with Texas. He has a .155 / .214 / .194 line in 112 appearances on the field between this season and last. White’s demotion means that Adolis garcia really will be the whole thing down in center field, writes Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. The 28-year-old clocked a revealing .269 / .317 / .538 with seven home runs in 101 home plate appearances, surprisingly taking the center field starting post by the horns. Taveras Leody and now White, in the meantime, have both been demoted.
