Police are said to be ready to send a file to prosecutors after a 50-year-old man was detained for murder.
Stuart Lubbock, 31, died at Michael Barrymore’s home in 2001 – his body found in the swimming pool at the star’s £ 2million home in Essex.
Officers say they have conducted a “substantial and detailed investigation” and will submit a case to the CPS “for review and decision,” the Sun reports.
Prosecutors are expected to start reviewing the case as early as this week – before deciding what charges, if any, will be brought.
The next step for the police will be to charge the suspect if a decision is made to prosecute.
The file is said to contain evidence relating to the suspect’s alleged involvement in the reported offenses that left Stuart dead.
Stuart’s brother Kevin, 53, said of the latest developments: “It shows why my dad has never given up on fighting for the justice we all deserve. “
Stuart’s father, Terry, revealed in February that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Reacting to the news of the latest developments in the case, Terry said the pain of losing his son “almost killed me”.
Stuart, 31, suffered internal injuries suggesting he was sexually assaulted at the March 31, 2001 party in Roydon, Essex, which was attended by Barrymore and eight guests.
