An Ohio couple and two of their 19 children, who are adults, have been charged after their daughter who escaped the family presented a series of allegations against them.

Robert Bellar, 54, and his wife Deborah Bellar, 49, face charges in an ongoing investigation into the sexual abuse of their children. Two of their sons Jonathan Levi Bellar, 26, and Josiah Bellar, 24, have also been charged.

This came after one of Robert and Deborah’s daughters told the Messenger of Athens that she had been forced to attend a “cult” church run by her uncle, James Bellar, who told them that their brothers and sisters should have children between them in order to prepare for the Apocalypse.

Serah Bellar said: “All the kids should go, whether they want to or not – even if you were sick you had to go, it didn’t matter.

“Every time he said anything, I sort of repeated it in my head, like, how bad it sounded. He was always talking about the end of the world and how you would reproduce with your siblings.

This uncle denied the allegations in a statement to Law and Crime, calling it a “complete lie”. James Bellar said, “I am a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and I testify of the truth. How people react to it depends on them.

Serah had been missing since April last year after escaping alleged abuse; after turning 18, she then posted on Facebook under a fake name detailing all of her allegations.

They focus on incidents that allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2016. Children’s services have reportedly received reports but no formal action has been taken.

Athens County District Attorney Keller Blackburn said: “There has been an absolute systematic failure in dealing with these charges.

“Serah has been turned down by authorities every time she tried to report this abuse. “

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Liz Pepper accused her mother Deborah of “refusing to accept the fact that there was sexual abuse in the home and the plot she then made to cover it up.”

She said she “hid witnesses … falsified evidence and … is pursuing a plot to cover up sexual abuse that took place in her home.”

Robert and Deborah are believed to have 18 biological children and one adopted child.

They were each charged with one count of corrupt activities and two counts of endangering children, according to the Athens County Prosecutor.

The couple each pleaded not guilty and received $ 1 million bonds.

Jonathan Levi Bellar is accused of gross sexual imposition. He is being held at the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail. He pleaded not guilty.

Josiah Bellar is charged with three counts of rape and two counts of aggravated sexual imposition. He has not yet been arrested.

By the way, the Athens County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jimmy Childs has also been charged with obstructing justice and tampering with evidence.

He is accused of having erased the evidence of a phone call he had with Robert Bellar during the investigation.
