Nove Mesto XC World Cup 2021 – fr

The results come from an incredible racing weekend in the second round of the 2021 XC World Cup in Nove Mesto. In the Under-23s, Carter Woods claimed a second victory in 2021, almost two minutes ahead of Riley Amos. Mona Mitterwallner also claimed her second World Cup victory of the season as she had just beaten Caroline Bohe to the finish line.
Loana Lecomte once again dominated the Elite Women race proving that she was the driver to beat this year. After taking the lead in the starting loop and creating a 29-second gap at the end of the first lap, she was unstoppable today. Haley Batten also had a great race taking another 2nd place in her first year of racing as an elite. Rebecca McConnell completed the top three as she was the only other runner to come within two minutes of Loana Lecomte.

For the Elite Men, it was a battle between Thomas Pidcock and Mathieu van der Poel in the first round. A big attack from Pidcock in the third lap gave him a 30-second lead which he would extend by one minute at the end of the race. Mathias Flueckiger and Ondrej Cink had good races in third and fourth place respectively, current elite world champion Jordan Sarrou just squeezed into the top five. The winner of the first round, Victor Koretzky, did not have the best of days crossing the finish line in 24th position. Nino Schurter also struggled today with a crash halfway through the race, putting him out of the top five for the first time at Nove Mesto.

Check out the full results and updates from the race as it happened below.
