No, Biden didn’t fake his Ford F-150 Lightning test drive – fr

Posts on Facebook wonder if President Joe Biden was claiming to test the F-150 Lightning electric pickup when he visited one of Ford Motor Co.’s factories in Dearborn, Mich., On May 18 to launch its electric $ 174 billion. vehicle proposal.

A Republican candidate for governor of California was among those who posted it, sharing two images. The top image is of the interior of a vehicle with two steering wheels on the driver and passenger side. The bottom image is of Biden in the F-150. A red box edited in the photo highlights what appears to be a hand on another steering wheel on the passenger side.

“Joe can’t even drive himself,” read the caption of the post.

Other posts on Instagram and other websites also asked if Biden was actually driving the vehicle.

But this claim hits some major speedbumps.

The posts were reported as part of Facebook’s efforts to tackle fake news and disinformation on its news feed. (Learn more about our partnership with Facebook.)

We compared the two photos in a Facebook post. The top image shows the interior of the autonomous Lexus LS 600hL, which debuted in September 2017. The bottom image is a screenshot of Biden’s F-150 test drive, with the image frozen to give the impression that the person next to Biden, who is a U.S. Secret Service agent, has his hand on a steering wheel. But the video and Photos captured by reporters show that Biden is the only person with a wheel, the agent manipulating a camera that sits on the dashboard. There is only one steering wheel in the vehicle.

The White House has refuted this claim, as has Ford Motor Company spokeswoman Melissa Miller.

“This rumor is very wrong. There was only one steering wheel that the president drove on Tuesday, ”Miller said.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Biden’s test drive was discussed as a possibility ahead of his visit, but Ford staff were unaware that was going to happen until the very end of the day’s event.

Our decision

Social media posts containing two photos – one of Biden driving a vehicle and the other of a car interior with two steering wheels – claim Biden did not drive on a test drive electric vehicle at Ford Motor Co.

The White House and Ford Motor Co. have refuted this claim, and photo and video evidence shows there is only one steering wheel in the truck, which Biden was operating.
