Newborn baby’s body found in London canal – fr

The body of a newborn baby was found in the Grand Union Canal in northwest London, Metropolitan Police said.

Police said officers and paramedics were called to the site near Old Oak Lane shortly before 1:20 p.m. Sunday.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cordons are in place at the canal near Old Oak Lane and an urgent investigation is underway to establish the circumstances.

Police urge the baby’s mother to seek medical assistance by dialing 999.

Witnesses said dozens of police, ambulance and fire vehicles can be seen in the area, near an industrial area in Park Royal.

A number of roads and trails have been cordoned off as police continue to expand the area.

Officers told people the cords could be in place for “hours.”

Emergency personnel wearing diving gear, such as wetsuits, could also be seen walking near the incident site.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 1.35pm today at Old Oak Lane, NW10, to receive information about the body of a child found in the canal.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene: an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team leader and two ambulance teams. We also dispatched our intervention team to the danger zone.

“Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that a baby died at the scene.”
