New York Mets struggling to score coaches shooting – fr

ST. LOUIS – The New York Mets fired coach Chili Davis and coach assistant Tom Slater on Monday night.
The moves were made following a 6-5 loss to the Saint-Louis Cardinals that dropped the Mets to 11-12.

New York struggled with runners in scoring position early in the season, a problem last year also when the popular Davis worked remotely due to coronavirus concerns.

Several accomplished hitters have gone on slow starts, including $ 341 million newcomer Francisco Lindor, who has been untouched in his last 25 at home and at bat .163 overall. The team also lacked power at home, a big surprise for a team that includes Pete Alonso, Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith.

Hugh Quattlebaum, Minor League Strike Coordinator, and Farm Manager Kevin Howard, will join the Major League coaching staff to replace Davis and Slater, respectively.

“It was a tough decision to make,” said interim general manager Zack Scott. “It’s not 23 games results.

“We just felt that the players needed a different level of support and maybe different skills were built into the mix. “

Scott said it was a baseball operations decision and team president Sandy Alderson agreed.

“These are not recent results. This is the process behind the scenes, ”Scott said. “It’s too early to overreact to small sample results. ”
