NBA Western Conference playoff race, standings show – fr

With three games to play in the NBA regular season, the Portland Trail Blazers sit fifth in the Western Conference standings.

The Blazers (40-29) moved up to fifth place Tuesday night after the Dallas Mavericks (40-29) were blown away by ninth Memphis Grizzlies 133-104. Despite identical records, the Blazers have beaten the Mavericks in two of three games this season to win the tiebreaker. This leaves Dallas in sixth place. The Mavericks also have three games to go.

The Los Angeles Lakers needed overtime to survive the New York Knicks 101-99. The Lakers (39-30) are in seventh place, one game behind the Mavericks and Blazers.

Elsewhere in the West, Golden State beat Phoenix 122-116 to maintain a half-lead over Memphis for eighth place. The Warriors and Grizzlies have now clinched places in the play-in tournament.

The LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets each won to remain third and fourth, respectively.

The West’s top six teams will win playoff spots, while the seventh through tenth place teams will head to a play-in tournament to determine the No.7 and 8 seeds. ends Sunday.
