The bizarre images of the long black object plunging into the water were filmed at Jangkar Beach in East Java – some people claiming it was a damaged UFO.
The spooky object was swallowed by the waves shortly after crashing into the sea.
Facebook user Kh Popeye Watermelon shared the clip and asked, “What is this anchor-like thing that fell from the sky? “
Gabriel Notonegoro said: “Maybe it’s the fairy who lost her wings and forgot the way home? Lol. “
YouTube user Roy Valen commented, “Mysterious! “
Emanuel Sungging Mumpungi, of the Indonesian government space agency, said he was aware of the footage and that a team had been dispatched to the scene.
“We are still awaiting confirmation from the whereabouts team,” Mumpungi said.
The aviation expert said it could have been a type of balloon – and added “it was too slow to be an object falling from space”.
It comes after an ex-astronaut weighed in on images of mysterious UFO sightings released by the US Navy.
Former International Space Station commander Chris Hadfield has claimed that the unidentified phenomena are not the work of aliens – adding that if you think they are, you are an idiot.
“Obviously I’ve seen countless things in the sky that I don’t understand,” Hadfield told Canadian broadcaster CBC.
“But to see something in the sky that you don’t understand and then immediately conclude that it is intelligent life from another solar system is the height of insanity and lack of logic. “
Over the past three years, the Pentagon has taken unprecedented steps to release three stunning UFO videos filmed by the US Navy.
He also confirmed the existence of his secret UFO investigation unit.
Some experts have suggested that technologically advanced crafts created by Russia or China could be the cause of the phenomenon, while others have said they could be the work of aliens.
According to Hadfield, while aliens aren’t responsible, we might not be alone in the universe.

Hadfield’s comments came days after images of what were believed to be UFO sightings near San Diego came out in July 2019.
