Moonwriter didn’t hesitate to make his presence felt in Red Shores’ first favorite beat of the season at Summerside Raceway as part of a special Victoria Day program on Monday, May 24th.

Colin Johnson’s trainee was overlooked in the West Oval’s opening day $ 3,100 first round, stopping the clock in 1: 55.2 in line with David Dowling. The victory propelled the nine-year-old Sportswriter’s career earnings to $ 391,515, to his 24th score for owner Debbie Element of Village Green. Soccer Hanover rallied for second place while race favorite Heart And Soul finished third. Moonwriter paid $ 6.00 to win.

Coach Darla MacEachern had a career moment in the season opener at Red Shores Summerside when WC Little Willie gave the Summerside rider her first victory in training. MacPherson was in the seat for the score of 2: 03.1 over the front.

Coaches Ron Gass and Jeff Wallace finished the day tied for leading practice at the Prince County Oval with two wins apiece.

Coasttocoastshark won 1: 59.4 from Wallace barn after an 18-month layoff, while Flowersonthebeach was another winner in 1:59.

Gass’s victories came with Kataparka in 1: 58.4 and in a first score for Magical Lily Bear in 2:02.

The total opening day card amount was $ 40,702.
