«JE [was] relieved that I was going to get out of this situation. ”
CO May have finished filming over a decade ago, but Mischa Barton wasn’t ready to share her truth about the show until now.
In a new candid interview, Mischa revealed exactly what happened behind the scenes before her release from the series.
“I’ve always been ashamed to really talk about what happened behind the scenes… now that we live in this era where we talk about our experiences and women are clearly saying what was really going on. about… and how they were treated is a slightly different thing, ”Mischa told E! New.
Mischa explained that discussions about her character’s murder started “pretty early on,” following the addition of Rachel Bilson as a series regular after the first season.
« [There was] kind of general intimidation from some of the men on set that looked really shitty. But, you know, I also loved the show and had to build my own walls and ways around that and the fame that was specifically imposed on me, ”explained Mischa.
She continued, “Just in the face of the amount of invasion I had in my personal life, I just felt very unprotected, I guess that’s the best way to put it. “
Mischa later added that there were people on “this set who were very mean” to her, and that it was not “the most ideal environment for a sensitive young girl who was also pushed into the celebrity ”.
Things really started to fall apart “halfway through Season 2,” when the intense filming schedule got “too much” for her and she had two options from the producers.
“I just felt like it was the best thing for me and my health and just in terms of not really feeling protected by my cast and my crew at that time,” Mischa shared her decision to to leave.
Although Mischa admits, “It’s sad that there isn’t a better way to handle this,” she was happy with the way her character left the show.
And if it was bittersweet to leave the cast and crew who had become “like family,” she says she also felt relieved to be leaving.
“I was young, but I was excited to try and do new things too and I didn’t know if I could continue to cope with the stress of the environment I was placed in,” Mischa concluded.
