The Manchester City youngster has been a featured artist for Pep Guardiola’s chosen champions this season.
Foden has firmly established himself as a top choice for Guardiola, ahead of more experienced Raheem Sterling, which bodes well for his chances of leaving for England at the European Championship.
The 20-year-old played a key role in City’s 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, which guided them to the Champions League final.
Owen believes that Foden, along with Mason Mount, will soon challenge Mbappe and Haaland to be considered among the best players in the world.
“So exciting for the summer with England. I think Mason Mount and Phil Foden could be two of the best players in the world in the future, I think they’re so good, ”Owen told BT Sport. “It’s so exciting to see their progress. I honestly think they’ll get there (up there with Mbappe and Haaland), definitely Foden.
“Actually seeing Mount live here I think he’s a phenomenal player, but Foden could become one of the best players England have ever seen. “
While Foden and Mount are set to face each other in the Champions League final, Owen has backed Manchester City to cause Thomas Tuchel side trouble.
Owen said: “Yes, these are horses for the courses. Man City are the best team in Europe, I have no doubts about that.
“If it was a two-legged game, you would support City even more. But a one-off match, they have the tools to hurt anyone (Chelsea).
“It will be a fantastic tactical battle, two great footballing minds clash. “
