When Meghan Markle broke down on the documentary Harry & Meghan: A Trip to ITV Africa we were all shocked, but presenter Tom Badby said he could see the royal couple struggling.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their royal tour of Africa in September 2019, visiting Cape Town, Botswana and Malawi. Meghan had just become a new mother and had even taken five-month-old Archie on a trip.
The footage showed the couple meeting the locals and smiling as they carried out their royal duties, but the ITV documentary captured another side of the couple, with a clearly emotional Meghan revealing that yes, she was struggling to to be a royal and a new mom.
Now, in an interview with The Times, Tom Bradby says his own mental health issues affected the way he approached the couple’s interview for the documentary.

The ITV news reader said that “I was clearly influenced by my own experience and didn’t think they were in great shape, so I changed the way I planned to do the documentary.”
“I don’t regret doing this. There may be other times in the future across a range of topics where I will change my approach if I sense something similar.
While he went on to say that with Meghan “I felt like there was an unknown story there. And I decided to try to bring out that side. “
The interview was the first sign that Meghan and Harry were struggling, with the couple moving to the United States the following year. Their recent interview with Oprah revealed an overview of Meghan’s mental health issues.
The couple recently posted a new photo of their son Archie to celebrate his second birthday – a cute photo of him holding a balloon.
