Marcus Rashford Hosts “Surrealist” Zoom Call with Barack Obama

Marcus Rashford had a Zoom call with Barack Obama, calling the experience “surreal”.

The 23-year-old footballer has a virtual meeting with the former president and the couple bonded over their shared experiences of being raised by single mothers and wanting to make an impact on society.

Rashford, which was a frank champion to tackle child food poverty, joked about holding the call with Mr obama “Sitting in my kitchen in Manchester”.

The discussion, hosted by Penguin Books, aimed to give back to your local community and the positive impact of reading – another cause Rashford has supported for children.

“It’s pretty surreal, isn’t it?” I am sitting in my kitchen in Manchester, talking to President Obama. But, immediately, he put me at ease, ”said the young footballer.

“It wasn’t long before I realized how much our experiences as children were aligned with the training of the men you see today – adversity, obstacles and everything in between. I really enjoyed every minute of it. When President Obama speaks, all you want to do is listen. “

Mr Obama also praised the Manchester United and England striker, saying: “A lot of the young people I meet – including Marcus – are ahead of who I was when I was 23. years.

“They are already making changes and are positive forces in their communities. “

As a result, 1.7 million vulnerable children have been taken into care by a £ 520million government program.

The footballer also tops the Sunday Times’ donation list this year after raising £ 20million for the charity FareShare.

The conversation between Rashford and the former president was moderated by broadcaster and author June Sarpong and will be broadcast in full on Penguin UK’s YouTube channel at 2 p.m. Friday.
