Manitoba reports largest daily increase in COVID-19 cases in over 4 months – fr

Manitoba reported four deaths associated with COVID-19 on Thursday and 363 new cases – the largest one-day increase in about four months.
The number of Manitobans hospitalized with COVID-19 increased slightly to 185 and the number in intensive care rose from 47 to 52.

More contagious variants of concern have become increasingly dominant in recent weeks, and the total number of variant-related cases jumped again Thursday from 2,789 to 3,003. Of the 2,732 active cases in Manitoba, 1,025 are variants.

Sixteen of the 986 deaths from COVID-19 in Manitoba are now linked to coronavirus infections, up from 12 on Wednesday.

The number of hospitals in Manitoba continues to climb. The total number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients increased slightly to 185 and the number in intensive care rose from 47 to 52.

Province-wide cases have increased, but the newest and most active cases are in Winnipeg, where the number of schools reverting to distance learning continues to increase. Students in 17 Manitoba schools are now learning from home; 15 were reported at home earlier this week.

School cases are down slightly from the last provincial update, but remain high: one in four Manitoba schools (213) currently has at least one case. Of the 574 textbook cases over the past two weeks, 16 percent are staff cases.
