Manchester United’s position on Pau Torres transfer interest ahead of Europa League final – fr

Manchester United consider the Europa League final to be Pau Torres’ last ‘hearing’ before deciding on their main center-back goal.
United are already in talks with representatives of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the chance to see Villarreal Torres regular in the flesh in Gdansk on Wednesday.

It is understood that there has been no recent contact between United and Torres’ side and the 24-year-old does not view this week’s final as an audition to potentially join United.

Torres is under contract until 2024 with Villarreal and United have shortlisted the Spain international and Varane from a list of five potential defensive rookies for the new year.

Manchester City have been watching Torres but United are the Premier League side most interested. Real Madrid are also calling on Torres but sources close to the player do not expect any transfers to be completed until later in the window due to the European Championship.

Torres has played seven times for Spain and was named to coach Luis Enrique’s 24-man squad on Monday.

Varane, 28, is out of contract next year and the Manchester Evening News have revealed that Real Madrid are ready to sell him to United. United’s director of football negotiations Matt Judge has had exploratory talks with Varane’s side but there is interest from Liverpool as well.

United ended the Premier League season as the second-best scorer but scored 44 goals and Edinson Cavani’s contract extension placed emphasis on recruiting a new center-half.

Sources believe United will do everything possible to sign a center-back even though Solskjaer has refused to rule out a move for a striker amid long-standing interest in Harry Kane.

Varane and Torres both fit in United’s ideal 23-28 age range for targets, but Varane is considerably more experienced. Varane has won four Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and four Club World Cups and he has started in all seven of France’s matches in their triumphant 2018 World Cup campaign.
