Manchester United transfer target Pau Torres in tears after reaching Europa League final – fr

Villarreal defender Pau Torres struggled to hold back tears of joy after confirming he would face a “huge” club like Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side reached their first major final under the Norwegian on Thursday night, beating AS Roma 8-5 on aggregate, despite losing 3-2 in the second leg in Italy.

Their reward will be a clash with Spain’s Villarreal side who were guided to their very first European final by Europa League specialist Unai Emery.

United will be the big favorites at the Gdansk flagship event later this month, but the occasion could serve as an audition for Spain international Torres as well.

MEN Sport reported in March that Torres, 24, was interested in a move to Old Trafford this summer, while the defender had also spoken to friends about his move to a bigger club.

Torres has a release clause in his current contract which is in the region of € 60million and could be seen as the ideal long-term partner for Harry Maguire given his age and natural abilities as a defender left foot.

No matter what they decide, there will be closer scrutiny of his performance in the Europa League final and the Villarreal defender knows how difficult it will be.

“We are up against a huge club at Manchester United and we will have to work very hard to win,” Torres told reporters after the second leg against Arsenal.

“We told the hotel that it couldn’t be another all-English final. It’s so special that Villarreal is playing in a European final. We have achieved something really big.

“It’s for all the fans, the club, the team, the team from last year, my village. We made the story when we got to the final but we’re not done yet.

“It was a very difficult result to bring here. They had chances tonight. As the boss said to get to a final, you have to suffer. Tonight I cry tears of emotion instead of disappointment. Villarreal missed so many semi-finals. – final chances of reaching the final but now, finally, we did it! ”
