Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reiterated his belief that his side could not have fought for the title this season due to injuries to their main center-backs. He said United and Man City would struggle to be put in Liverpool’s place this quarter.
“That’s what I said before this year, with the number of injuries we’ve had, it wasn’t the year to become champions. No chance. For no one.
“As good as they are, if City has its three middle halves, no [they don’t win the league]. Three central halves of United, no.
“For the whole season too, that’s how it’s been.
“We fought back a bit, accepted the difficulties and made the most of it, and if we win on Sunday, and if we qualify for the Champions League, we made the most of it. That’s all.
“Ask Manchester United now if, at the moment, they like the Europa League and they will say ‘yes’. They love to play the final and have the chance to win.
“So we’ve already done some sort of work, but not the one we wanted to do.
