She became one of Friend’s most popular guest stars thanks in part to the instantly recognizable cackle of her character Janice.

So it was fitting that Maggie Wheeler would make a surprise appearance on HBO’s reunion special Max’s Friend which was released on Thursday.

The 59-year-old actress came with series stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer to remember her time working on the classic sitcom.

She can’t miss it: Maggie Wheeler, 59, made a surprise appearance at Thursday’s Reunion of Friends by slipping into the character of Janice, Chandler Bing’s longtime girlfriend; still meeting friends

The cast created a perfect entry moment when they joked about how Lisa Kudrow had the loudest laugh on set when she was in the character of Phoebe, before showing a behind-the-scenes clip of her. bursting out laughing at an inopportune moment.

Understandably, Maggie Wheeler’s Janice didn’t want to be outclassed in the laughter competition, so she stepped in on the side of the stage.

“My God, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me!” she cried in Janice’s nasal, abrasive voice.

Janice sat on the arm of the sofa the cast was sitting on while wearing a black blazer over a black floral blouse and showing off a touch of gray.

Host James Corden’s first question to Maggie was how she created the popular character, which wasn’t very difficult for her.

“You know I have the sides of the hearing on my fax machine and it says New Yorker, and I thought, [in Janice’s voice] ” I know her. I – she lives in me, that’s all.

The actress spoke in a lower, softer voice, but she could instantly switch to Janice’s high, craggy voice.

Even though she instantly knew which voice she wanted to use for Janice, it wasn’t until she started out with her main teammate Matthew Perry that the classic laughter came to her.

“Matthew Perry is so funny, and as soon as I laid eyes on him and he opened his mouth, I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to lose him, I’m going to crack. This character needs a laugh because I’m not going to be able to go through a single scene with this guy, ”she admitted.

‘And I just looked and he and I went [Janice’s laugh] and that was it. It was just born in the moment, ”she continued.

“Thank you, Matthew, for inspiring this. And anyway everyone, oh my God, the Friends reunion, and I can be a part of it!
