Lowry leads the exhausted Raptors past the Lakers; Clippers clinch playoff berth – fr


LOS ANGELES – Kyle Lowry had 37 points and 11 assists, Pascal Siakam had 39 points and 13 rebounds and the shorthanded Toronto Raptors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114 on Sunday night.
LeBron James had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists before returning to the locker room with 6:42 to go. It was the second comeback game for James after missing 20 with a sprained right ankle.

Toronto ended a three-game losing streak despite the absence of Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, Chris Boucher or Gary Trent Jr. due to injuries or to rest after losing in Utah on Saturday.

DeAndre ‘Bembry had 14 points off the bench and the Raptors led by no less than 21 to give the reigning NBA Champion Lakers another disconcerting loss.

Kyle Kuzma had 24 points for Los Angeles, Anthony Davis had 12 and Andre Drummond had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

After trailing by no less than 12 points in the first quarter, the Raptors led 72-59 at the half after blitzing the Lakers for 40 points in the second. A raging Lowry had 13, including the last seven points for Toronto in the locker room, and Bembry scored 11.

The Lakers came back to less than 10 points early in the fourth quarter, but Lowry responded with a personal run of 8-2.

Lowry had 8 for 13 on a 3-point range and 12 for 20 in total.

Kuzma hit a 3 with 58.8 seconds left to reduce Toronto’s lead to six before Bembry and Siakam hit free throws to seal it.

With the Lakers losing Sunday, the Los Angeles Clippers have got a place in the playoffs.

Lakers: Kuzma finished Game 8 for 16 at 3 points. The rest of the Lakers were 5 for 13.… G Dennis Schroder did not play after being placed in league health and safety protocols. This is his second stint there after missing four games in February after being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
