The accompanying storm also cut power to hundreds of homes across the Lower Mainland

Many were awakened by either the roaring thunder or the crackle of lights in a dramatic electric show that took off over the Lower Mainland last night.

Along with the lightning, strong winds caused strong winds which, according to reports, caused the rain to fall to the side. BC Hydro has listed lightning strikes and fallen trees as the culprits in several recent power outages. The outages affected more than a thousand homes in Richmond, Chilliwack and Surrey, with the largest outage in North Vancouver with 1,440 affected.

I certainly wouldn’t want to get caught up in this!

According to Environment Canada’s forecast in Vancouver, while the rest of the day appears to be mostly cloudy, we may not be fully out of the woods with a risk of additional thunderstorms throughout the day and especially in evening.

If this happens, please let us know about your flash videos and photos!
