Leicester are set to compete with Arsenal for the signing of Ryan Bertrand and will offer the defender a deal to join them.

Bertrand, 31, has announced that he will end his seven-year stint at Southampton this summer and that the experienced left-back will be available with a free transfer as his contract expires next month.

Arsenal will look to lend their support to Kieran Tierney – with the departure of Sead Kolasinac – and Bertrand has been approached for a possible move to the Emirates, despite his ties to bitter rivals Chelsea.

However, the Gunners are likely to face stiff competition for the full-back, with Serie A giants AC Milan and new FA Cup winner Leicester also registering keen interest.

According to talkSPORT, the Foxes are set to offer Bertrand a one-year contract as Brendan Rodgers looks to cover James Justin and Luke Thomas at left-back.

The report claims that Bertrand – who has been selected 19 times by England – will wait to see whether Leicester will secure Champions League football before making a final decision on his future.

“After several months of difficult decision making, I have decided to leave Southampton Football Club,” Bertrand told supporters on social media last week.

“It was only decided in the last 48 hours and the comments that I had not accepted an offer before are not true.

“I would like to thank all the fans for welcoming me to this football club and for constantly supporting me. All the support staff behind the scenes, thank you.

“Thanks also to the Liebherr family. “

Bertrand broke into Chelsea’s first team 15 years ago and enjoyed nine separate loan spells with Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa before joining Southampton permanently in January 2015.

At the time of Bertrand’s imminent departure, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “He was here for seven years. As always in football, things are coming to an end.

“I think he did a good job for this club. Finally, we have to move forward, as always in life, and you have to start something new, and that is what we have decided as a club and we will replace it this summer.

“It’s normal in football, I think, to start new things and, if we are lucky enough to bring someone in this summer to this post, a young Ryan Bertrand if you want, that helps us with his quality. or his level of performance, then we can develop this young boy and maybe later become an even better player.

Pressed by Southampton’s search for a replacement left-back, Hasenhuttl added: “We were a long way off to bring someone in so I’m sure we’ll find a good solution for the summer.

“We don’t want to discuss with anyone, the options we have, but there are some very good ones, they’re within our financial limits, and it’s important to us that we find a good package that suits us. “
