Kim Kardashian denies smuggling ‘looted’ ancient Roman sculpture – fr

Authorities seized a shipment of $ 750,000 under Kim’s name at the Port of Los Angeles.

Kim Kardashian has denied having knowledge of an ancient Roman sculpture imported under her name and seized at the Los Angeles post in 2016 because it was allegedly stolen.

The sculpture, described as “Fragment of Samian Athena from Myron, Limestone, Roman, 1st – 2nd century AD,” was part of a shipment of $ 745,882 containing 40 pieces of antiques and furniture, addressed to “Kim Kardashian dba Noel Roberts Trust. “

“Kim has never bought this piece and it’s the first she found out about it,” a spokesperson for the reality TV star said in a statement. “We believe it may have been purchased using her name without authorization and since it was never received, she was unaware of the transaction. “

“We encourage an investigation and hope it will be returned to the rightful owners. “

In 2018, an archaeologist from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage determined that the limestone statue of the lower half of a woman had been “looted, smuggled and illegally exported from Italy”.

At the time of the seizure by Customs and Border Protection, Kardashian and her husband Kanye West were renovating their home in Calabasas, California, with help from famed Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt.

Customs officials received a receipt from Kardashian’s business entity claiming that the statue was purchased in 2012 from Vervoordt, who had purchased it from Galerie Chenel in Paris.

However, inspectors discovered that the receipt was not for the seized fragment of Samian Athena from Myron, but for a different statue.

“The invoice from the Galerie Chenel of November 2012 did not appear to relate to the status of the defendant, as the term ‘a large draped statue’ would refer to a full / entire draped statue of natural size and a ‘fragment of Myron Samian Athena’ does would only refer to part of a statue, which is what the defendant’s statue is, ”the court documents read.

The court case documents do not allege any wrongdoing by Kardashian.

The Italian riflemen for the protection of cultural heritage demanded that the statue be returned to Italy.
