Anyone who has purchased plates, bowls or mugs from the HEROISK or TALRIKA ranges is now advised to stop using the products and return them to an IKEA store.
The products were taken off the shelves and the Swedish company – which has a store in Exeter – has apologized to customers for any inconvenience caused by the recall.
Product recalls and safety advisories are performed by merchants about products that present issues that may affect consumer safety, according to trade standards.
IKEA said after reports that breakage may have caused burns due to hot contents, the decision was made to recall the products, which were sold between August 2019 and May of this year.
A post on the IKEA site reads: “IKEA is asking customers who have purchased its HEROISK or TALRIKA plates, bowls or mugs that were sold between August 2019 and May 2021 to stop using them.
“IKEA has received reports of broken plates, bowls and cups, which could cause burns due to the hot contents. The products have been withdrawn from sale and we are currently conducting a recall.
“Customers are asked to return them to an IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required.
“Please visit IKEA.co.uk or contact customer service on 0203 645 0010 for more information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. “
