One of the major problems with Tesla’s implementation of their semi-automated, Driving assistance level 2 system, confusedly called autopilot or, in other variations, Complete self-driving, is that it has inadequate systems to confirm that there is a human behind the wheel, ready to take over in an instant, and, like all level 2 systems, does not have safe failover behavior for put the car away if no driver is detected or something is wrong. While many Tesla enthusiasts have yelled at me that these things just aren’t problems, the existence of idiots like this guy arrested for abusing his Tesla’s autopilot are the proof.
