The pay-TV network gave fans a preview of what is to come in the new series.
Named as one of the best TV series of all time, the show’s final season notably suffered a major backlash for its reduced length and what many saw as a disappointing conclusion. Luckily for fans, an upcoming prequel to the series titled Dragon house should arrive sometime in 2022. In the meantime, HBO has just offered the first glimpse of what to expect in the series.
HBO released photos from the series earlier this week showing the new characters fans will meet once the series finally debuts. Starting production in April, this series will be based on Martin’s book Fire and blood.
The new series will take place approximately 300 years before the events of the original show, focusing on the House of Targaryen. The storyline centers around Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Prince Daemon Targaryen, members of House Targaryen who rule Westeros.
Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith portray the Targaryen royal family and are pictured in some of the images released. Steve Toussaint is pictured in another photo in his role as a seasoned sailor and fighter Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as “The Sea Snake”. The last image features the character of Alice Hightower, played by Olivia Cooke and recognized by the author as “the most charming woman of the Seven Kingdoms”.
Rhys Ifans will play his father Otto Hightower. Dragon house is expected to be released in 2022.
