Harry and Meghan called on supporters to “join us in advocating for vaccine fairness on Archie’s birthday” in a post on their website, archewell.com.
“We can’t think of a more resonant way to honor our son’s birthday,” they said.
Thanking the audience, they wrote, “We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support of our family in honor of Archie’s birthday.
“Many of you donate to charities on his behalf and mark the occasion by giving back or doing an act of service – all out of the kindness of your heart. “
The Duke and Duchess highlighted how, across the world and in many developing countries, vaccine distribution has “not actually started yet”.
“We won’t really be able to recover until everyone, everywhere, has equal access to the vaccine,” the couple said.
“We invite you to contribute whatever you can – if you can afford it – to bring vaccines to families in the most vulnerable regions of the world. “
The royals also wished Archie a happy second birthday on social media.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge tweeted from their KensingtonRoyal account: “I wish Archie a very happy 2nd birthday today. “
Their message was accompanied by a photo of Archie when he was baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a private ceremony in July 2019.
The Queen also sent her best wishes to her great-grandson via a tweet from the Royal Family’s official account saying: “Wishing Archie Mountbatten-Windsor a very happy 2nd birthday today. “
And Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, shared a photo, taken by fashion photographer Chris Allerton, of Harry proudly showing Archie to the child’s grandfather at his christening.
Archie has spent most of his life living away from his royal parents in America with parents Harry and Meghan.
The Duchess revealed how the special bond between her son and her husband inspired her first children’s book, The Bench.
Archie has rarely been seen in the past 12 months, but he was featured in a black and white music video released earlier this year, showing him walking along the beach watched by his parents and family dog Guy .
Archie also made a surprise appearance on the Sussexes’ first podcast for Spotify in December of last year – when he was heard speaking with an American accent.
To mark his first birthday, Harry and Meghan posted footage of their son playing for the camera as his mother read him a children’s book, Duck! Rabbit!
Fans are hoping the couple will share another image today to mark their second anniversary – though one image has yet to be released.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6, 2019 at 5:26 a.m., weighing 7 lbs 3 oz.
