France unveiled the national basketball team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Thursday.
The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) said in a statement that coach Vincent Collet had chosen 12 players and 4 reservists for this summer’s games.
Collet has also appointed four substitute players, who will train with the France team during preparations and can be integrated into the squad in the event of injury.
Axel Toupane (Milwaukee Bucks), Isaia Cordinier (Nanterre), William Howard (ASVEL) and Mathias Lessort (Monaco) would be the reservists.
There are five NBA players in the French 12-player Olympic team; Frank Ntilikina (New York Knicks), Evan Fournier (Boston Celtics), Nicolas Batum (Los Angeles Clippers), Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (Brooklyn Nets) and Rudy Gobert (Utah Jazz).
Fenerbahce Beko playmaker, guard Nando De Colo and Pinar Karsiyaka striker Amath M’baye were also part of the national team to travel to Tokyo.
France will meet on June 23 to prepare for the Olympics.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8 after being postponed for a year due to the pandemic.
France will play in Group A in Tokyo to face the United States, Iran and a nation from the Olympic qualifiers (Victoria, Canada).
The winner of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQT) in Victoria will join France, the United States and Iran.
Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey and Uruguay must meet from June 29 to July 4 to win a ticket to the Olympics.
