France could block British holidaymakers amid fears over the spread of the Covid variant – fr

Stricter restrictions on UK visitors could be imposed by France amid growing fears over the Indian variant Covid-19.
The country is considering “slightly more severe” restrictions due to the spread variant, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told RTL radio.

He suggested that the UK could be placed in a full-fledged health category, between the more stringent measures imposed on visitors to India and 15 other countries, and more relaxed requirements for visitors to the EU and some other countries.

“We are concerned about the Indian variant and we remain on alert on this matter, in cooperation with the British authorities,” said the minister.

UK visitors to France must show proof of a negative PCR test carried out less than 72 hours before departure and complete a health declaration form committing to self-isolate for seven days and undergo a second PCR test.

France is on the UK’s “orange” list. Germany and Austria have also imposed stricter rules on UK visitors due to the Indian variant.

Meanwhile, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is offering passengers Covid-19 tests starting at £ 57 for pre-departure and arrival.

The test kits – provided by Prenetics – can be booked through the Eurotunnel website and can be sent to the passenger’s home address, or they can go to any of the 20 UK locations to take the test in nobody.

Deborah Merrens, Commercial Director of Eurotunnel, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers an easy way to meet current testing requirements.

“We know that if vacationers desperately need to get away, safety is paramount and our collaboration with Prenetics makes the testing process as stress free as possible.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle said bookings were increasing ahead of hopes that France would be included in the green list by the main summer holiday period.
