Harry Kane is often assumed to be the skipper at Tottenham, but Lloris wears the armband for both club and country. He served as Blues‘leader in the field since 2010, winning 98 selections as a solo skipper (and 122 in total).
This makes Lloris the oldest captain in the history of the national team, with Didier Deschamps, second, now his manager.
As the reigning world champion and finalist beaten in the European Championship five years ago, France are among the favorites to win Euro 2020.
They qualified for the competition as the winners of their group, beating Turkey, Iceland, Albania, Andorra and Moldova in first place.
However, France will oppose it from the start during this summer’s tournament, which will take place in 11 different cities in the same number of countries.
Deschamps’ side have been drawn into the death group, which includes two other teams who will be striving to win the trophy this summer.
France begins its campaign against one of these parties, Germany, in Munich on June 15.
The next step for the world champions is a meeting with Hungary in Budapest four days later.
France will conclude the group stage against Portugal, who beat them in the Euro 2016 final, in the Hungarian capital on June 23.
The Deschamps team has extensive experience, but the manager will always rely on Lloris’ know-how and leadership at Euro 2020.
It will likely be the goalkeeper’s last European Championship as the Tottenham keeper is now 34 years old.
He hopes to continue playing internationally until the 2022 World Cup, which ends shortly before his 36th birthday.
Lloris made his debut for the senior France squad in 2008, but he did not make the squad for this year’s European Championship.
