When the Saturday Night Live episode started at 11:30 p.m. ET, Dogecoin was hovering at $ 0.80, according to Coinsquare data. However, as the rather ghastly episode continued, it hit a low of $ 0.59.

Then, when Musk took on the role of “Dogefather” during SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost, Dogecoin came back to $ 0.67. After being repeatedly quizzed by the hosts about what Dogecoin really is, Musk finally admitted that it was “a fuss” which resulted in the cryptocurrency’s value falling rapidly.
It looks like Dogecoin would hit $ 1 when Musk appeared on SNL turned out to be wrong. Earlier this week, the coin climbed 41% in 24 hours, hitting a record high of $ 0.89.
While I expected the absolute worst and the episode delivered a heavy dose of grinding teeth, the controversial billionaire made several jokes at his own expense, led the series by saying he was the first. SNL host with Asperger’s and, of course, talked about renewables and Mars.
That said, it was still terrible, and the Musk episode once again reminded me why I rarely watch SNL.
