Do everything to get Biden administration to deliver excess Covid vaccine to India: Krishnamoorthi – fr

Indo-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said he was doing everything he could to get the Biden administration to provide India with excess vaccines not used in the United States, amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic .

He was speaking at a Howard University webinar here with Gautam Buddha University and the Association of Indian Universities.

“I have done everything I can to get the Biden administration to provide the surplus vaccines that we are not using in the United States for India. I asked them to share portions of our 80 million excess vaccine doses. They responded favorably, but now I am proposing something even bigger, ”Rajakrishnamoorthi said in his short speech on“ Strategies to deal with COVID-19, especially access to vaccine supply ”.

The congressman also recently introduced the Nulifying Opportunities for Variants to Infect and Decimate (NOVID) law.

“It would be an American program to vaccinate 60% of the world’s population. It is very important that we make sure that 60% or that we achieve collective immunity in India and other countries, ”he said.

“Not only because it’s the right thing to do out of compassion and morality, but it’s the smart thing to do. If we don’t, the variants from all other countries will come back to harm everyone in the United States. So we have to support this program and help everyone everywhere. Because COVID-19 anywhere is a threat to everyone everywhere, ”he said.

The NOVID Act is a broad coronavirus prevention program that will ensure Americans are not subjected to another deadly wave of COVID-19 nationwide, according to a press release.

Under NOVID, the United States would establish the $ 19 billion Pandemic Preparedness and Response Program (PanPReP) through the State Department, modeled on PEPFAR, to oversee and coordinate the US global strategy for the COVID-19 pandemic

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the congressman refuted reports that the webinar was being hosted by Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM).

“The congressman was invited to the event by Howard University who hosted him and had no contact with the LSU or aware of their involvement,” Will Baldwin, director of communications, told PTI. and senior advisor to the Congressman.
