Now a new update suggests that Marvel’s pre-Disney + TV shows – including Agents du SHIELD and Agent Carter – have been completely wiped out of the MCU canon.
The news – A recent article on Reddit from u / wandavisionbaby notes that Agents du SHIELD, Agent Carter, Inhuman, and Runaways were all added to Disney + ‘s “Marvel Legacy Movies and Series” section – indicating that these Marvel shows are not set in the MCU.
The change was only made in a few international territories, including Brazil, while the American version of Disney + has always Agent Carter, Inhuman, and Runaways included in its “Marvel Live Action Series and Specials” section with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Agents du SHIELD is not yet available on Disney + in the US, however, which means Marvel may be waiting for the ABC series to be added to the streaming service before officially moving all shows to the “Marvel Legacy” section.
Erased from history – Since Marvel and Disney have yet to officially confirm whether shows like SHIELD, Carter, Inhuman, or Runaways are still considered canon within the MCU, we can’t say for sure if they are or not. However, the series’ transition to the ‘Marvel Legacy’ section of Disney + in non-U.S. Regions seems to be another sign that Marvel is planning to forget about them altogether.
Fans have also been speculating on this possibility for months. WandaVisionUsing a new version of The Darkhold just brought new attention to rumors that Agents du SHIELD and Runaways (which featured an alternate iteration of The Magic Book) were being wiped out of MCU canon by Marvel. Meanwhile, recent rumors that Marvel may nominate a new actress to play Daisy Johnson aka Quake – the character Chloe Bennet starred in. Agents du SHIELD – only added fuel to these theories.
There are also ongoing rumors that Marvel may bring back actors from its Netflix series – specifically Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Jon Bernthal – to reprise their Marvel roles in future MCU titles. without referencing Netflix shows in any way. If these rumors turn out to be true, then Marvel’s take on all of its pre-Disney + shows seems pretty clear.
the Inverse Analysis – Marvel continues to be needlessly secretive about the canonical status of its ABC, Hulu, and Netflix shows.
However, it seems increasingly likely that the studio has already chosen to reconfigure the events and characters of these shows in an alternate universe outside of the MCU’s main reality. At least, that’s what this update from Disney + suggests.
