Dave Bautista thinks Marvel dropped the ball with Drax – fr

As someone who was completely unfamiliar with Guardians of the Galaxy, I wasn’t sure what to expect when Marvel announced that James Gunn would be bringing the Cosmic Team to the big screen. With a cast that included a wise-cute raccoon and talking tree, guardians of the galaxy had the potential to be one of the studio’s biggest hits or its first real failure; Fortunately, the film was a huge success and the characters continued to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the next one Thor: Love & Thunder, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3. This latest sequel should complete the story Gunn started with the first film, but one actor believes Marvel may have dropped the ball with his character.

Speaking with Collider, Drax actor Dave Bautista said that while the role has “ changed the trajectory of my life ” and is ” it’s always going to be special to me,“He wishes more time had been invested in Drax and its story.

I think Drax has a really interesting story that they dropped the ball on. This is not a dig on Marvel. They had their slate, I know what they’re focusing on, that’s what they planned. But man, I think they really missed the ball on Drax. He has such a great story. Selfishly, as a performer, it would have given me the opportunity to show different sides of Drax, emotionally. And physically too. Because, if you notice, Drax, although he looks like a badass, you look at him and he looks terrifying, but Drax gets his ass kicked more than any other Marvel character … the window … the people just fell in love with the comedic side of Drax so much that they tapped into it, and then they exploited it more, then they really dug a hole in it. But we missed a huge boat on this character and I don’t think he will ever return. But I can’t wait to complete this whole trip.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Drax’s homeworld was overrun by the forces of Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his family was killed, leading him to seek revenge. While Drax ended up having little to do with Thanos’ eventual defeat, you can see why Bautista believes his character was not used to his full potential. Bautista was concerned that Drax’s character dates back to the first sequel, when he told CBR that when he wasn’t crazy about his role when he read the script. ” It took a different direction than I thought they were going to go with Drax,“Baptist said. »It’s just because I expected one thing and got another. So I was a little unsettled at the start.“The actor added that he found it disappointing because he thought Drax was going to be so much more, but he finally clicked on the table first reading.

While Drax the Destroyer may not have had the trip Dave Bautista envisioned, don’t begin to think that the actor suddenly stumbled upon the Guardians of the Galaxy as he can’t wait to return to complete the saga. of Science fiction. . There will be a table reading for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in November, it will be the first time that Bautista reads the script. ” I’m so excited to wrap this whole trip with these guys,“Baptist said. »I love them. I love the Guardians as a family. They know that. I think everyone knows that I say enough about it.“Dave Bautista will then be seen in Zack Snyder’s Army of the dead, which will debut on Netflix on May 14. What do you think people? Would you like Drax’s bow to have gone a different way?
