Cycling news – Bora Hansgrohe’s Lennard Kamna takes a break to recover from an infection and will miss the Tour de France – fr

Bora Hansgrohe’s Lennard Kamna has announced he will take a break from competitive cycling as he tries to recover from a long-standing problem with an infection.
The problem affected his training at the Tour de France and also complicated his physical and mental health. The impact of a break was mitigated by the one-year extension of his contract with the team.

The 24-year-old German impressed last year with stage wins at the Tour de France and the Critérium du Dauphiné, and was up for the challenge this year. He won a stage at this year’s Volta a Catalunya in March this year, but an infection was made worse by his early return to the Volta ao Algarve.

“After a long reflection and intensive consultation with my coach and the team, I have decided most likely not to participate in the Tour de France this year. The decision was very difficult for me, and it’s also a decision that hurts, ”said Kämna.

“To be honest I have to admit that maybe I pushed the accelerator too much in the spring and paid too little attention to my regeneration and what my body was trying to tell me.

“I want to be open with my team and the public. Unfortunately, the past few weeks have also weighed on me mentally, more than I initially wanted to admit. Now, with a heavy heart, I have to accept the reality that I am currently not fit enough to meet the demands of participating in the Tour. I will now invest a lot of time and energy in regeneration and slowly build my shape.

Kamna suggested, however, that while optimistic, full-time shopping could take months.

“However, I want to stress that I’m fine. However, I would like to be able to freely determine my return, ”he said.

“It could be short term, but it is likely that together we will decide not to re-engage fully until the second half of the season.

“I am extremely grateful to my team, especially my coach Dan Lorang, for all the support during this time. “
