Ottawa’s economy added 6,000 new jobs in April, despite new lockdown restrictions from COVID-19 that forced non-essential businesses to close.

However, with more people looking for jobs in the capital last month, Ottawa’s unemployment rate fell from 6.3% in March to 6.7% in April.

The CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association suggests Ontario has experienced the worst of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have better days ahead as we slowly descend from this third wave. It will, however, take continued sacrifices and very hard work from all of us if we are to get there, ”said Anthony Dale in an interview with CTV News on Friday.

However, Dale warns that while there are signs of optimism, that doesn’t mean it’s time to loosen the restrictions or let down our guards.

Ontario’s current home stay order expires on May 20.
