Newberg, Ore. – Brooke France broke his own school record today in the discus at the George Fox Final Qualifier track competition with a winning draw of 43.35m. Several other boxers competed today, with many getting new PRs and climbing the All-Time Top Ten list. France’s new school record is the 20th best throw in the NCAA DIII this season. The top 19 scores from each event advance to the NCAA National Championship competition, which takes place May 27-29, 2021 in Greensboro, SC. Final statements will be made tomorrow evening and the list of accepted entries will be posted. France is currently only one place in qualifying in the discus, and it has secured its place in the javelin, as it is ranked 6th with its score of 43.52. Dominic Funk also secured a berth in the NCAA National Championship for the javelin with his final 59.13m draw last week at the NWC Championships.
During the GFU final qualifying meeting, Emily Rutkowski ran second in the women’s 400 hurdles, with a new PR of 1: 01.71, placing her in 7th place in the Top Ten. Riley twins and Garrett Stewart both got new PRs as well, with Riley clocking 1: 57.51 in the 800m for 10th place and Garrett in 4: 08.35 in the 1500m for 9th place. Jacib Duvall took 4th place in the men’s discus with his throw of 45.46m. France also won the women’s javelin with her mark of 43.10m and finished second in the hammer throw with her mark of 45.18m. Jenna Hoiland won the women’s triple jump with her jump of 11.57m.
For most boxers, this was the last competition of the 2021 outdoor track season. Brooke France and Dominic Funk, they will officially secure their ticket to the NCAA National Championship tomorrow, Friday night, once the final delegations and accepted entry lists are announced.
