The estranged couple are parents to Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 12.
Judge Ouderkirk is said to have made his thoughts clear in a long ruling, after months of testimony.
They included childcare professionals who interviewed the Jolie-Pitt children and others who came into contact with the family.
A source told the New York Post: “A significant change has been made to custody agreements based on an extremely detailed decision made by the judge.
“Brad was just trying to spend more time with his kids.”
The source added: “This trial went on for several months and there were a *** ton of witnesses, experts, therapists and others who have been with and around the children, and the decision was based on that. “
Sources claimed the judge had made an “interim decision,” adding that Jolie was continuing her legal fight.
“Shared custody is not the issue Angelina opposes, there were other areas of concern, but the legal process is closed and sealed,” the insider said.
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, just two years after marrying Pitt at Chateau Miraval in France, in an intimate ceremony where all of their children were invited to play roles.
The couple initially met while filming the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004 where they played a married couple hiding the fact that they were both trained assassins.
Pitt was previously married to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston. The actors announced their separation to fans in 2005.
