Blue Jays choose Reese McGuire and move Julian Merryweather to 60 Days IL – fr

The Blue Jays have selected the receiver contract Reese McGuire and moved right-handed lifter Julian Merryweather to the list of injured 60 days in a corresponding movement, Shi Davidi de Sportsnet was among those to report. The team also opted for the receiver Riley Adams at Triple-A Buffalo.
McGuire – who Toronto acquired from Pittsburgh in 2016 – impressed earlier in his major league career, hitting a .297 / .343 / .539 eyebrow with seven home runs in 138 2018-19 home plate appearances. But 2020 neither went well on the pitch for McGuire, who was stopped before the season and then managed to hit a terrible .073 / .073 / .146 in 45 appearances on the plateau. The Blue Jays knocked McGuire out of their 40-man roster altogether last month, but he’s now back with a team looking for help behind the plate. Danny Jansen has posted a horrible production so far this year, while Alejandro Kirk will be absent for the foreseeable future with a left flexor strain.

Merryweather went to the IL on April 14 with left oblique tension, and his move to the 60-day version means he won’t be back until at least mid-June. The 29-year-old hard-throw player served as a bright spot for the Toronto relievers’ box early in the season, as he clocked 4 1/3 scoreless innings in one stroke with seven strikeouts. , one walk and two stops.
