According to Meltzer, WWE chose to host the event on a Saturday this year because the stadium in Las Vegas that was in consideration for the event, Allegiant Stadium, wanted to host the event on a Saturday. However, it appears that WWE has already gone ahead and confirmed the date for Saturday before settling down at the venue.
One problem with Las Vegas this weekend is that Manny Pacquiao also has to fight Errol Spence Jr. in a boxing match the same night. This fight was confirmed earlier this month. Additionally, Meltzer reported that WWE called the date change for Saturday before the Pacquiao fight was confirmed.
Additionally, Meltzer said SummerSlam 2021 will be held in Las Vegas before “anything changes,” meaning it is now looking at other host cities. The aspect that “changed” is probably the match against Pacquiao that turned WWE’s plans for the city upside down. Meltzer noted that while “Vegas is not out of action” for SummerSlam, the city is no longer the “first choice”.
WWE will reveal the location and host city for SummerSlam 2021 on Saturday, June 5 during the Belmont Stakes 2021 pre-race show on NBC.
