Australia will face France in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in a three-test series in July

Australia will face Fabien Galthie’s France three times at home this summer

Australia will face France in three tests over 11 days in July in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as they begin their 2021 season, Rugby Australia has announced.

The first Test will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, July 7, marking the return of the Midweek Rugby Test for the Wallabies for the first time in nine years.

The last time Australia, ranked seventh in the world, played a midweek test was in 2012 against Scotland – a game they lost 9-6.

The action will then move south to Melbourne for the second test on Tuesday, July 13 before a possible decision maker at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane four days later.

Australia last faced France competitively in 2016 in a fall international at the Stade de France

France, fifth, last visited Australia in 2014, when they were beaten 3-0.

The opening test in Sydney will be the first meeting between the two teams in nearly five years, with Fabien Galthie’s side set to arrive following a promising Six Nations campaign in which they finished second.

“France is one of the most exciting teams in world rugby; she plays with passion, flair and unpredictability and has proven time and time again that she is one of the global strengths of our game, ”said Andy Marinos, Managing Director of Rugby Australia.

The president of the French Rugby Federation, Bernard Laporte, is convinced that the two teams will put on a show.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to take on an iconic southern hemisphere nation that has marked the history of world rugby like Australia,” said Laporte.

“We are convinced that our Blues, who feel a growing wave of popularity from the French with each match, will be keen to continue to perform on the international scene and to demonstrate that France is one of the great nations of world rugby. “

Australia and France last played in Paris in 2016, with the Wallabies winning 25-23.
