Arlene Foster won a payment of £ 125,000 on a slanderous tweet from Dr Christian Jessen, the TV presenter.
A Belfast High Court judge ordered the TV doctor to pay damages for posting a ‘scandalous’ defamatory tweet that baselessly claimed the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland was having an extramarital affair.
Ms Foster sued Dr Jessen for libel over the social media post and, delivering her judgment in the High Court in Belfast, Judge McAlinden said: ‘To declare that a woman has been married for 25 and a half years and a mother of three child children, who is a committed and recognized Christian, and who has publicly made statements extolling the importance and sanctity of marriage, who also happens to be the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and holder of the post of first Minister of Northern Ireland, was an adulterer, a hypocrite and a homophobe is a most serious libel and is grossly libelous.
“This is a scandalous defamation of a person of very great importance, attacking his integrity at the most fundamental level, and it involves the destruction in a very public way of the relationship that Ms. Foster holds most dear in her. his life.
