NEW DELHI: The Archery Association of India (AAI) has started a visa process for the team to compete in next month’s Olympic qualifying competition and World Cup in Paris.
“We submitted visa application forms online on Friday to avoid last minute rush. The recurve women’s national team aims to earn a quota place in Paris (France), ”an IAA official told IANS.
The top three teams in the Olympic qualifying event will win quota places.
Indian men’s recurve team qualified for Tokyo Olympics at the 2019 World Championships in the Netherlands.
The women’s team has yet to make a cut for Olympic Games although Deepika Kumari won an individual quota spot.
“Recently, the team of Deepika, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari won the World Cup gold medal in Guatemala City. We hope that they can also repeat their performance in Paris, ”said a archery team coach.
According to an IAA official, the Olympic qualifying event will take place on June 18 and 19 in Paris while the third stage of the Archery World Cup is scheduled for June 21 to 27 at the same location.
Participants in the World Cup and the Olympic qualifying event will not be subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine.
“Since the women’s team is scheduled to compete in the Olympic qualifying event, they will leave on June 16 while those who compete in the World Cup will leave later,” said the official.
