66-year-old Briton dies after light planes crash into sea off Spanish beach – fr

A Briton has died after a plane crashed into the sea off a beach in Spain.
The 66-year-old was killed instantly when the light plane plunged into water shortly after take off from a small airfield, called Aeroclub Totana, in Murcia.

The Briton reportedly lost control of his plane before it crashed on Descargador beach, near Cala Reona, which is close to the naval port city of Cartagena.

The fatal accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Local reports claim the man performed stunts before crashing into thick fog.

British plane took off from Flying Club Totana in Murcia region

Water sports locals, including a canoeist, removed the Briton’s body from the plane and a pleasure boat took him to a nearby port.

Luis Martinez Escudero, one of the men who helped remove the Briton’s body from the sea, told a local newspaper: “We saw a body float face down in the water five minutes after the sea fell. ‘plane.

“I put the body down on the longboard I was on with the help of a canoeist who also headed for the same spot.

“We then transferred the deceased to a boat which arrived and took him to a nearby port.”

He also described the weather conditions at the time as “extremely foggy”.

Mr. Martinez told Las Provincias newspaper that the plane made “loops” before crashing.

Another pilot who left the aerodrome shortly before the accident reportedly complained about low clouds.

Coastguard divers and police searched the area to rule out any further casualties before it was confirmed the expatriate was alone on the plane.

An investigation into the tragedy is currently underway pending an autopsy which is expected to take place later.

Cartagena Mayor Ana Belen Castejon wrote on Twitter: “My sincere condolences to the friends and relatives of the deceased man.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save his life.”

A spokesperson for a government-run regional emergency response coordination center said: “We can confirm the death of a 66-year-old man who was in a light plane crash in Cala Reona, in the municipality of Cartagena.
