40 new cases of COVID-19 reported today – fr


Forty new cases of COVID-19 are reported today by the Porcupine Health Unit.

There are 26 cases in Timmins, seven in the James and Hudson Bay area, six in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls area, and one in the Kapuskasing area.

The exposure of 26 cases is under investigation, eight people are contacts of one case and six cases are linked to an outbreak, according to the health unit.

To date, there have been 1,062 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Yesterday, 709 people were recovered and 26 people died. Although the health unit announces new confirmed cases over the weekend, the number of recoveries is not being reported.

A vaccination blitz, including a walk-in clinic at the Timmins Native Friendship Center today, is taking place this weekend in Timmins.

There are COVID-19 assessment centers in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
